Participants Often Had Higher Preferences for Redistribution after the Forum
Katharina Zimmermann, Jan-Ocko Heuer and Steffen Mau (WelfSOC) published an article in the journal „Social Policy & Administration“. The paper analyses citizens’ attitudes towards the welfare state from a qualitative and procedural perspective. Based on data from large group discussions (“Deliberative Forums”) which took place at the “Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin” in 2016, the authors show that many participants expressed higher preferences for redistribution after the event. The article explains the attitudinal dynamics on the basis of the qualitative material by pointing towards the role of information, reasoning, and group processes.
