Emma Carmel, Head of British TRANSWEL Team, Debating on BBC Sunday Politics West

Dr Emma Carmel, Head of the British team of the Welfare State Futures TRANSWEL project, enjoyed debating EU, UK and Brexit immigration & policy with Molly Cato MEP & former immigration minister, Mark Harper MP on the BBC’s ’Sunday Politics programme on 23 March. She was able to contribute to busting myths about ‘welfare tourism’, ‘migrants stealing jobs’ and ‘driving down wages’. She suggested to address the underlying structural conditions and inequalities in UK political economy and labour markets, that feed anti-migrant feeling, and which anti-migrant policies will not resolve.
